I'm a beginner at this so I hardly know what I'm talking about. I'm a new guy and just for starters I want to be able to hook up a canon 20d or canon 5d mii or a g9 to this telescope i bought off craigslist. It's a Meade model rb-60. and it has other numbers on it d=60mm f=700mm

Ok. For starters, I just want to hook the camera up to the telescope and just concentrate on the moon. I want to see if I can get better moon shots than with the canon 600mm.

It looks like I need to get two adapters. Can anyone tell me if this is right?
universal t-adapter-1.25 inch camera adapter and a Zhumell Universal T-adapter (saw this on telescope.com

Is that all i would need to get started on shooting the moon?

All this is very new to me so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Eddy

Hi Eddy! I really understand your frustration as well. I haven't actually gotten an adapter as of yet to attach my camera to my scope, but I will offer this information. Call the Museaum of Transportation, and ask them when the St. Louis Astronomy group is there. I'm wanting to think it is every week for an hour or two. You can also contact them directly at: http://www.slasonline.org/ I have not had the opportunity to talk to them, especially since they are 3 hours north of here, but the people that I have talked to who HAVE dealt with them say they are wonderful with beginners.

You need two parts . A T-Ring (http://www.astronomics.com/main/product.asp/catalog_name/Astronomics/category_name/TB9WU6JHEK128HQD8EUSWSA6W6/product_id/81CAE) and a Meade Camera Adapter (http://www.astronomics.com/main/product.asp/catalog_name/Astronomics/category_name/K49JT7XW30VE8G6FWFPL4A3C54/product_id/1320) . Then you need to see if the Eye-Piece that comes with your scope will fit in the Adapter . If not then you also need to buy an Eye-Piece that will fit the adapter . You take the lens off the camera and replace it with the T-Ring and the Camera Adapter scews into the T-Ring . But you want to put your Eye-Piece in the adapter first and tighten the thumb screw so the Eye-Piece does not slip out and fall inside the camera and damage the internal parts like the sensor . After everything is secured together you slip the end of the adapter into the diagonal on the scope , then look into the viewer of the camera and focus the scope while the scope is pointed at the moon . When focus is set then you start taking picts . You can look on my website and i have picts of a camera hooked up to a small scope in my equipment section . This may all seem and sound easy and it actually is when you know how to do it . Just take your time and do it right and trial and error will prevail .

This is for eyepiece projection imaging though, yeah? I'm not familiar with the telescope, but will a T-Ring and T-Adapter not suffice for Prime imaging? Would be a far better comparison to the Canon 600mm that Eddy's talking about. (Would love to see some moon shots with the Canon actually.)

In laymen's terms, a T-Ring is simply a metal ring with a fitting specific to your camera. For example, mine's a Canon-EF T-Ring, because that's the fitting my camera takes. T-Adapters are more generic, and simply screw into the T-Ring. Connected together they just look a bit like a thin stubby lens, but with no optics. T-Adapters come in two main sizes - 1.25" and 2", which are the common standard sizes for telescopes. Some are smaller, at just under an inch. Some are slightly larger. Best to go with 2" adapters if your scope takes them.

Heres his SCOPE (http://www.amazon.com/Meade-70055Lf-Altazimuth-Refractor-Telescope/dp/tech-data/B000P5UKZA) . If it will focus without an EP then he doesn't need one but this small of a scope will not produce a big image of the moon without an EP . Just something they will have to find out first .

Thanks. It sounds simple enough. I'll order it in the next few days. The Meade Camera Adapter is on backorder.

You can find the same adapter at other websites , just do a search . Check my Favorites Links on my website for a few of the dealers that may have them . Also it does not have to be a Meade . Orion sells the same adapter .

I found them on B&H but I can't order off that site till sat night.

question. When looking through the telescope and the moon is basically full frame in the scope, when you have the camera attached to it, will you be able to get the same image?

I'm really excited. Cant wait to get my parts.

And I can't find the moon. I've been looking for it for the last few hours. Wheres does it hide? I was hoping for a full friday the 13th moon.

Heres one from Orion (http://www.telescope.com/control/product/~category_id=photo_accessories/~pcategory=astro-imaging/~product_id=A0321) . Get the non-variable . I wouldn't mess with the variable at the moment .

Don't rush , just take your time and becareful with your camera equip. . The moon is going throught the last quarters phases so it comes up late and is getting to be near sunrise in the next few days . It will be a couple weeks before you see a good size moon .

It looks like I'm not going to be rushing into anything right now. I placed my order with B&H and it said it's backordered on there too. I'm pretty sure I got the right adapter. It seems like the Meade adapters are on back order on both sites. I don't think I can cancel my order cause it's special order.

I also don't think I'll mess up my camera equipment. I plan on using my older 20d first just to try to get everything to work. If I get decent results, I'll switch it to the 5dm2.

Adrena1in, i took a few shots at the moon tonight with the Canon 600 and aslo added the 1.4 tc to it. I think the total length was around 840 mm I don't want to double post my photo in here so here's the link to the moon picture

Still waiting for the lens adapter. Still on back order.

Still waiting for the lens adapter. Still on back order. This is getting pretty ridiculous. I was SO excited when I got my little cheapy telescope just so I can see the moon. I think I saw Jupiter once. But I only wanted it so I can try to take pictures of it. Now it doesn't really interest me anymore. Where is my lens adapter. btw, I got the t adapter but not the lens adapter. They were supposed to hold both and ship at the same time. I'm thinking about sending it back. I think I can get just as good shots with a 600mm than with the telescope but I really wanted to try it.

Two more days then I'm calling and canceling my order and sending the t adapter back,
