I'd like to get an S90, but am wondering about RAW support in Apple's Aperture program. Does anyone know if Aperture works with the RAW files from the S90? I note that Apple's RAW support page does not list either the G11 or S90, at least not yet.

Thanks in advance.

I thought aperture was fine with canon standard raw but had difficulty with the new fine raws 1 and 2?
Any idea which type of raw file this camera outputs?

Only Canon's DPP *fully* supports raw from G11 and S90 (such as automatically correcting for barrell distortion).

I know this, but it doesn't answer my question. Does Aperture currently support the RAW format of the S90. A simple yes or no would suffice.

I believe that was the round about way of saying, no it does not. it might work, but you won't get barrel distortion fixes or maybe even the right colors.

If it's not on Apple's RAW list, you shouldn't count on it working well w/ anything that depends on it.

Mrknowitall, you're making this too complicated. I don't care about barrel distortion correction, etc. I simply want to know if I upload S90 RAW files into Aperture, can I see them and manipulate them?

Based on what's on the supported list on the Apple/Aperture page, as well as some posts in the Apple Discussion forum, I'd say no.

I wasn't concerned with making this easy for you, but rather with amusing myself. Sorry if you didn't realize we had opposing agendas.

I bought Aperture, but ended up not using it(prefer Lightroom). It's up to date, so I went ahead and loaded an S90 image for you. Here's what I got:

I can read the thumbnail, but thats it. Unlike Lightroom, which I've been processing S90 images just fine(don't care about the barrel distortion on landscape shots, it can be fixed if needed).

I just shoot raw + jpeg and import the photos into ihoto and Aperture. Aperture will come out with an update soon that will allow it to support the RAW files from the s90 and g11. Then you'll have full control in aperture. iPhoto will attemt to d/l both raw and jpeg, but will only do the jpeg because it dosent support the RAW yet. This way you can use iphoto to organize and at a later date use aperture to manipulate.

Guys, with a one-step preprocessing, you can now import the S90 CR2 files in Aperture. For details, please read this:

I hope someone finds it useful, I know I do.

Darn I spent half a day figuring that out and Apple came out with Aperture 3 the next day.

What a timing!!!!!

Needless to say, I have already ordered my copy.
