Maternity shots with a 2 year old - need help

I'd like to take some Maternity shots of my wife and my 2 year old son. My first problem is I never shot a model other than candid so I don't know how to pose. The second is 2 year olds don't sit still, How can I include him? Luckily it's my wife and son so I can try on multiple occasions, and I can try when he is in one of his calm moods. Any help or sample photos is greatly appreciated.

If all else fails, Let him fingerpaint a red heart on her bare belly. Have her sit on her knees looking down, watching him. He will be so engrossed in doing this, he won't realize you are taking pics. This can get messy, so as I said, IF ALL ELSE FAILS. : ) I've done this shot, and if I can find it on my other hard drive, I'll post it. (I did it in B&W and kept the heart red...it was cute.)

I usually get them to stand on something so they're a similar height and ask them to kiss/hug the baby... :) Seems to work but you need to be ready to shoot as they do it quickly :)

Another last week had a stethoscope and their toddler was truely listening to the baby.. very cute :D

I was finally able to get some shots done, 7 days before my wife gave birth. so this is what I came up with after viewing ideas online.

I haven't been on the shooting end of the maternity session/2 year old but I've been the client. My daughter was 18 months old when we did our maternity shoot for my son.

We did it outdoors and we did a variety of shots, some with her touching my belly. A couple of her kissing my belly. And then some shots of her and I sniffing flowers, giving each other a kiss, daddy and I smooching her cheeks ect. I recommend whatever you are planning on having your 2 yr old do, you work on it before you bring the camera out. This wasn't the first time she had given my belly a kiss or "talked" to her baby brother, so it wasn't forced in front of the camera.
