All was going well when I was in that sweet stage of planning and researching to buy something - a new 64 bit PC. Then, as usual, the bad things started and as they come in threes here they are: -

a) money to spend on upgrade had to be diverted elsewhere - no shiny new 64 bit system  ,

b) only had enough left to upgrade the existing hard drive   - so I went and bought another, faster one, which doubled my capacity :( .

c) installed the new hard drive as my main one with my original as the slave and then in a moment of complete unthinking madness formatted the whole lot    and I'd forgot to back up the RAW images to DVD taken over the last 2 months     .

The only saving grace is that I'm not a pro and I've not been able to do some paid portraits or weddings for 5 months when I broke my leg. But all the images of the seabird colonies on the Farne Islands taken 6 weks ago have gone up in the ether!

Moral of the story - back up, back up, oh and of course BACK UP YOUR IMAGES AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. I've certianly learned my lesson!

Just thought I'd share.

Barry :o

Sorry to hear that, Barry.

Happens to the best of us, sometimes, if we're honest.

Sorry to hear that, it is easy to do something like that. We should all take it as a reminder to back up NOW if it is being neglected, in my case it has. If you have any luck with data recovey, let us know. Ontrack.com prices look very high though.
