Hi guys. On vacation last week I experienced a problem with a standard (not high-speed) 2gig CF card. After about 100+ shots, I got a cf card error message and the camera would not record any more pictures to the card.

Back at the hotel I tried to read the pictures off of the card but that didnt work either. When the card is in the camera, it shows that there are pictures on it (as in, the number of pictures available left on the card is still accurate) its immediately after i take a shot or try to review pics on the lcd that I get the error.

I normally used high-speed CF cards and luckily had plenty of back ups for my trip. The only reason I bought a regular one this time was because I got a good deal on a 2gb. I looked for information on Sandisk's website, but couldnt find anything, so i will probably email them.

Im just trying to narrow the possible problems down, and am wondering if anyone else has had a problem like this. Do other digital rebel users stick to the pro, high speed cards or have you had success with regular cards as well? any insight would be greatly appreciated!

I have had very much the same problem with a 1GB Lexar 80x Professional and a Viking Interworks 256MB It appears to be a known problem; have a look at:

I'd like to know what Lexar or Canon might do about recovering lost pictures.

thanks for the quick replies. ill look into photorescue. thanks for the article eric, i had actually come across a similar article in my search, but most of the complaints seem to be about Lexar and not Sandisk, so i'm wondering if maybe i just a got stuck with a bad card. thanks again,

Photorescue is an amazing piece of software, it's saved my butt more than once on CF, SM, and SD cards that for one reason or another decided to not give up the images.

Update: my bf was able to salvage most of the picutres off of the card (263 out of about 300) using data recovery software on his computer. thanks for everyone's advice. I'm gonna send the card back to amazon and invest in a couple spare high speed 1gig cards
