Try a You-Tube search for a Canon 400D or XTi, and read the manual a few times. There are all kinds of free tutorials online, save your money for things that you have to pay for like lenses. If you want to learn about pretty much anything just Google it, and don't forget about the search feature on POTN.

Start with these:
CAMERA LESSONS by Canon: = Enjoy! Digital SLR camera = (http://www.canon.co.jp/Imaging/enjoydslr/index.html)
Virtual Camera

Notice the background change when you use his "Shutter and Aperture" settings!

http://www.usa.canon.com/content/reb...lxtlessons.htm (This I think has a much more indepth tutorial)

Have a read of the tutorials in my signature. They don't cover a specific camera, but they give a good foundation in shutter speed, aperture and the like.

you may join online course with the 'Open University'
It was all done online, and taught you the theory behind apertures, shutter speeds, etc; gave you photoshop elements software and showed you how to use it; and got you commenting on your fellow students' work.
