I shoot horse events. Candids are done with my Canon 28/135 IS. Long shots were with the Canon 70/200 f4 L.
Getting less steady with age. Still missing shots with the f4. Wife said "it's your time in life, get the lens you need and worry about it later". So I did.
The Canon 70/200 f2.8 L IS USM is without a doubt, what lenses should be.
I have the 100/400 L IS USM, but because of the range and the f4.5 and the need for fast framing, it didn't work well for the type of events I cover.
Between the two 70/200's (aside from the increased aperture), the image quality is marginally better at long long end with the f2.8 and stopped down a bit.
Act 2 of this ramble: Figured I would sell the f4 to recover some of the cost.
Wife asked to "see what the 'old' lens would do" on her 300D. Flowers in bloom + ten shots later, her comment was something like "good luck trying to get this back, buster".
Act 3: Do you think she set me up right from the beginning?
