Hi all,

I just would like to ask, where i can find that gray graduation or scale or whatever to see all the grades from Black to white? because when i was in NY and i went to Phase One dealer there, i saw them using Eizo monitors, but i saw they use one Apple Cinema Display, i asked one of the salesmen there about what the different or which is better between the two monitors just to be sure, he answered me with some points but then he showed me that gray scale [or i don't know what it is called that it is go from Black to White with gray grades in between] on two monitors and i saw that the one on Eizo was uniform but on ACD was with lines not uniform enough, and i believe that Eizo display they use is same as i have, but they have i think 20" ACD but i have 30", so i want that gray scale to check my monitors uniformity if you know/understand what i mean.

20" and 30" are built from the same technology, so they should be comparable. As for uniformity, EIZO monitors are more uniform in backlighting, and implement a higher bit count LUT to make sure you get the best quality. ACD and other lower end monitors don't have these features. The U2410 should have 12bit LUT (won't get into calibrating one, just leaving it at specs), but I doubt the backlights are as uniform as on a LaCie or EIZO. The new 24" ACD doesn't have 10/12bit LUT, and should have the about same uniformity as the U2410.

OK, thanks for the explanation about that uniformity reason, but i really would like to find that scale or measurement gray so i can check if my monitor uniformity is fine or not, because i opened one that gray scale but i can see the lines, i mean how i can test or check my monitor uniformity?

Fullscreen photoshop, then fill the screen with black, take a photo. Fill it with a few shades of gray (one at a time) and take a photo, fill it with white and take a photo. (all with a low falloff lens, let it auto expose so the screen is grey in all)

Thank you very much even really i didn't understand those steps exactly!

There are better methods, but this one is fairly easy and pretty good at telling you what you want to know... you just want to see how good your monitor is right?
