I personally really like it. I think it's nice and moody.

What pier is this, BTW? Looks very familiar to me.

This is a good choice for such a scene - it has all kinds of eye candy in addition to an excellent basic composition.

The range of tonality is excellent for a B & W.

The twilight lighting with an overcast sky gives an excellent balance between the ambient natual light and the incandescent lights.

The exposure is right on, giving good detail in the highlights and the mid-tones.

There is good 3-dimensionality with the foreground material, the pier in the middle ground and the sky as the background.

Some might complain that the horizon is too centered, but I feel that the bulk and tone of the pier make it the center of interest, and it is off-center enough, vertically, to give good balance.

Congratulation - best B & W I have seen here in weeks.

I think this is a wonderful image, the lighting and mood are just right, the B/W rendition is superb. One thing I noticed was a lack of sharpening in the print. I wanted to see what would happen if I selectively sharpened the pier and the water reflections. Here is the result and the sharpening mask used. IMO this effect reinforces the drama already in the image though that is purely subjective. Thank you for letting me work with your image.
