I spend a lot of time in nature. I use both still and movie images. I have a 5D Mk2 and a XHA1. However these cameras are big and bulky requiring set up time. I edit on Final Cut Studio. The images are used for everything, the web, DVD, BR, slide shows and hopefully some day broadcast. Looking for the highest quality output.
Because of these cameras bulk and inconvenience I elect to not always have a camera with me. Of course than I see something spectacular.
Consequently, I am in the market for a always carry camera be it still or movie. If movie it should take OK stills and vice versa. I intend to mount it on the end of a mono pod, my walking stick for instant access. The optical range should be as much as possible.
In researching Canon's cameras one jumps out. The Power Shot SX1 IS in the still category.
In movie cameras none of Canon's current offerings seem to fill the bill because they do not have a through the lens view finder. My experience with lCD screens in daylight at anything but the lowest magnification has not been good.
The question. For much discussion I hope. What would you choose in these circumstances for a walk around camera?

Let's hear it

I'm leaning towards the Canon G11 for just such a camera. I don't always want to haul around a DSLR.

The Canon S90 has a great screen that's fully visible in bright sunlight. That being said, it doesn't match some of your other requirements.

Honestly... Panasonic GF-1.

I've just got a Panasonic GF1 with a 20mm (40mm equiv) f/1.7 lens and it might be just what you're after. There are a choice of lenses but obviously it's not as compact when you're not using the pancake lens. It does HD video too.
