Hello All -

My 580EX II all of the sudden is not firing while attached to the camera. I cleared out all custom functions, batteries are replaced, I even connected to my quantum pack to make sure it wasn't a power issue. I also checked to make sure the flash was set to "enable" in the camera settings, which it is.

The flash WILL fire a test strobe when the red light is pressed, but no flash will fire when taking an actual picture.

Are there any other functions I'm missing that might be causing it not to fire? I'm hoping its not a hot-shoe problem. Unfortunately, I don't have another flash readily available to test the hot-shoe theory.

Thoughts? Thanks for the help, as always.

Cleaning the contacts may help, it is also known that dirt can cause lack of contact either from the hotshoe or the flash itself

It may also be the hotshoe itself...I see that you have three cameras, have you tried it on all? No other functions that I know of can cause the flash not to fire, but I don't know the functions of your cameras for me to say what can cause that to happen

Is it going into the hot shoe all the way?

Shorting out the center contact to the metal footplate of the flash will cause it to fire.
