I went to Vermont yesterday looking for some old buildings, a sunset, and wildlife of course. With the wildlife I soon noticed a funny trend - every bird I saw wanted to pose on a wire, post, sign, or some other man-made object. I got ONE shot of a bird in a natural setting, and that was on a boulder placed as a road-block. Go figure.
Once I noticed this trend I stopped scanning the trees and started checking out the telephone wires and stops signs and such. It worked - I nailed a few little birds. And it allowed me to be extremely lazy as I never left the car once.
I missed a few shots - including an RWB on a black & red post - due to my leaving the windows rolled up. Once I learned to keep them down I did better. Hey, it was HOT.
My only "natural" shot...

She poked her head out to check the surrounding, and found nothing but a big silver Crown Vic...

What the...?

Just a pose

And another pose...

I can't catch these Tree Swallows flying, so I'll take them sitting. On a wire of course.

And his lady, on the post holding the wire up.

I did see a couple raptors playing and screaming atop a small mountain, but I was armed only with a 17-40 at the time... Figures. (It was fun to watch, though.)
