Still in the pre season. Practice for the team, and me too! I've settled on 1/400 f/2.8 ISO3200 with high ISO NR on for this (home) rink using the MK3. I have made a custom picture style which has cut my PP to nothing but sort, crop, auto levels and USM. CRAZY! I used no post NR on these. I see some noise, but it is not bad IMHO. I like the look, but may still experiment with a setting for some post NR as the season progresses. Some of the rinks we play in are darker than our home rink and I'll have to shoot through the glass on many so post NR may be needed. I tried ROF on the MK3 for one period. Mixed feelings. I will likely keep one point manual selection, but ROF wasn't too bad!

Looked at your smugmug hockey stuff and some of it is better than the ones you posted.. though many could use more cropping, eliminating players that aren't of consequence to the situation, and some I don't think you need all of the empty ice in the a lot of the shots? It could be my own personal preference though.

Thanks. I agree with the cropping, however I feel I'm stuck a bit there. I have cropped images close to post on the site, but then if a customer purchases a picture, they choose what size they want. 5X7, 8X10, coffee mug etc. Smugmug puts up a crop box at check out in the ratio selected by the customer, or required by the merchandise. Sometimes when I crop too tight, the customer's selected ratio will not work. I have been posting at the camera's native ratio and trying to leave some room for additional cropping at checkout. On the team shot from last year, I had to eat a few because I originally posted one size made to fit a standard certificate frame 11X8.5. Some parents bought 10X8s, and the crop didn’t work. Now, if I make something for a specific ratio, I put that in the comments section. There are several versions of the team picture from last year available for that reason. Any suggestions would be most welcome!
