skip the q9400 unless you are massively overclocking. i7 860 setup should end up being about the same price... for $1250 though, I think you should be getting much more than that...

The HTPC i speced out on newegg came to $550 with half the memory and a q8200 instead (also 4650 graphics card in low profile version rather than 260 full size). Odd though, since memory upgrade should be maybe $150, cpu is another $100, and graphics maybe $150 (case $50). You should be looking at 1k exactly rather than $1250.

At that price point with those specs, you're better off going prebuilt, dell's got an i7 860 system for that price, including the graphics card, or you can save a few bucks by keeping the defaults and buying the card and memory yourself (for 1250 you can get 8gb ram and 216 core gtx 260)

Not going to do everything, but take something like this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.295367
add a 750W psu (about $100-150)
add 8gb ram in 4x2gb (looking at $240)
add geforce 260 216 core version ($180)
and you should be at just about the same price but with much better performance (more than double the processing speed)

The Asus VW246H (widescreen) has a 24 inch 2 ms (g2g) TN panel. Not the best for color critical work...

The U2410 is actually decent for gaming, 0ms input lag in game mode, and 6ms refresh. And it's H-IPS so good for color critical stuff too

nor is the asus actually 2ms either ;)
asus is 8ms black to white, 2 gray to gray, dell is 14ms black to white, 6ms gray to gray.

suggest better monitor for editing/gaming?

Nice case. I own several Coolermaster cases. Love them.

I was a long time Nvidia user, but lately I prefer ATI (long time AMD supporter as well) built in HDMI without using an adapter is hard to resist.

U2410 is better overall, and with black to white refresh rates under 20ms, your monitor will refresh faster than crysis will let you get fps anyway (on that card, u2410 resolution, you're looking at maybe 50fps with a lot of things turned down)

Why not go for an i5? They bench at pretty much the same as the i7's and are cheaper.
I would go for an ATI 5850 instead of the GTX260.
Samsung F3 over the Seagate?
