Hey guys, I have a DRebel with the 18-55mm kits lens (I know I definately have to add more lenses to my collection ASAP, but oh well) and am looking for a lens hood to go with it. A problem I've noticed in a lot of my night shots is lens flare, and I've read that a lens hood is the best way to get rid of it.

Here is an example of what I am trying to get rid of:

Is something like this okay?

Or should I get something bigger, like this?

Thanks in advance.

Nice shot of that yellow supercar

Yes, for that kind of flare, the lens hood *might* help.
However, if I see flare in the viewfinder, I normally try to block it with my hand ... move your hand by the side of the lens where the sun/light is until the flare vanishes.

The rubber lens hood looks a bit awkward, if you have to adjust it manually from wide to long zoom setting ... but should be more effective on long settings, that way.

Best regards,
Andy

I just bought a collapsible rubber lens hood with 58mm threads at the local camera store. It flattens down to about 1/2" thick and pops out to about the size of the lens hood you see in the Ebay auction you posted. It was about $6 plus tax.

Can't comment too much on performance yet, as I just got it a couple days ago.
