View Full Version : Built-in flash with EOS 300D

I was taking some pictures at a charity event on Monday and I had the camera set to the green rectangle (general use) mode. The event was indoors and I noticed that when using the built-in flash with the camera horizontal and vertical, the exposures were totally different. The pictures from the vertical shots were underexposed.
Is this a common problem with the 300D or is it something that I am doing wrong?
Suggestions/advice would be appreciated.
Regards,
Mark

I can only assume that the built in flash is meant for horizontal shots only and the shape of the flash head lends itself to shots held in the horizontal position. You would be very well served by investing in the Speedlite 420EX for any indoor flash photography.
You are also going to want to get the hacked firmware as well - so that you have access to FEC or 'flash exposure compensation'. Without FEC its a proposition of crossinf your fingers and hoping the flash comes out right.

Mark,
Please see my response to your question on photo.net.
And I hope the other answers you get here aren't as sarcastic as a few you got there.

Can you post a sample picture of a vertical shot?
