I have been reading through the forums for a few days and not sure if I am making the right decision for a tripod. I have a canon powershot pro1 and looking for a decent all around tripod. What is important to me is size and weight, but not so much so that I sacrifice use. I read recommendations from $65 to $1000 and can definately say that although I don't want the $50 walmart special I also am not ready to justify the huge price. I have read articles saying you will save hundreds of dollars if you just go out and spend the $1000 now but at this point I still think that is way overkill. As you can tell from my camera choice at this point in time that I am not a professional and most of my pictures are family pictures indoor about 60% and outdoor 40%. I figure most of the initial use will be for indoor portrait shots and eventually some outdoor shots, I might even put my sony trv33 mini dv camcorder on it.
So far I think I have narrowed down my choices to the following but would like some advise on if this is a smart choice for what I am looking for.
Velbon Ultra Maxi SF
or
Velbon Ultra Luxi SF
Both seem a decent size and wight and although not the Gitzo or Bogen quality the price point seems right for me and most importantly I think I will actually carry the thing around. I am just starting out, and at the beginning stages of playing with photography and what I enjoy most is capturing pictures of my wife and kids.
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.
