What do you recommend, I'm planning to get a 1GB card.

That sounds good. I'd recommend a San Disk Ultra II. A bit pricey, but well worth it.

I use the Ultra II cards as well, I have 4 and have never had a problem.

Ditto, again. Ultra II's are the best for the price. I have two 512's (because they were on sale and the 1G was not at the time) and love them.

1G can hold ~280 shots at the highest resolution (jpeg) and ~600 for the 8mp higer compression setting and ~110 for raw. You can decide how many picture you will be taking before getting a chance to dump them into your computer. A faster speed (80X) card is ~$85.

1GB can hold around 100 RAW files from a 20D, give or take. The 80X lexar cards aren't recommended at the moment, they're all being recalled because of an issue found with them. Maybe the ones in the stores have the new firmware, but given there's no fix yet I doubt it.

I'd vote for the Sandisk Ultra II's as well. I've got 4 right now in different sizes and will get one more soon, so I'll have 3.75 GB shortly (i.e. going to add another 1 GB). They are durable, stable and I've had my smaller cards for 2 years.

CF and SD are different technologies, different shapes, and different sizes. You need CompactFlash.

They are different format cards.
Your Rebel XT will take a compact flash but not a SD card.

I find the ScanDisk Ultra II to be the best bet. Check out this site (http://www.robgalbraith.com/bins/multi_page.asp?cid=6007) for loads of info.

I haven't tried anny other except the Sandisk Ultra II and have no reason to. They have been flawless.

I've found Sandisk to be the best name for Compact flash cards... I have just a normal 256mb Sandisk card, I've taken it swimming in the ocean, taken it to really hot whether conditions, cold ones and its still working prefectly.

I would highly recomend the Sandisk. I have several of the first generation Sandisk that are about 3 years old. Both of my daughters are now enjoying them and they perform flawlessly. I have several of the 1 GB Ultra II I use in my XT and they also have not let me down. I got them both at newegg.com for a very good price (I think around $80)
Do make sure that you get the largest card you can afford or several smaller ones. I always seem to expand to fill however much space is available.
