I took some pictures today at a PGA tour event (cameras were authorized and I was a volunteer) of some of the tour players. Can I post a couple on the site for feedback on how I did?

Thanks,

Dave

That would be an Editorial or Teaching use, wouldn't it? So, yes.
(Actually, I'd do it anyway!) ;-)

Hi everyone, new here and getting back into photography via the digital way. Just purchased a Canon 20D and loving it so far. Can anyone tell me.......how to get the vivid color in my pics? Does it all have to do with the ISO, aperture, and shutter speeds?
I want to get some really good shots of my daughters softball games. Any suggestions would be helpful and appreciated very much so. I will later post some pics for your critic. Thanks tons everyone.

Welcome, QUASIPHOTO, but you really need to start a new thread in another area like " Talk About Photography". For now, look in your manual under (maybe) "Setting processing parameters" re Saturation. Read the "Sticky"s & learn your way around here.
Another thing, I've been shooting about 40 years & have read all of my manual 3 times, parts of it even more. How many times have you read yours? ;-)
We really are a friendly group, so "Welcome" again!

PG is right, it is more appropriate in the "Equipment Talk" section, probably under "EOS Cameras" ... that is where I take all my questions about settings and various other problems. And while he's read his manuals many times, so have I and sometimes they don't make sense! Ya' gotta ask!

So photoguy and DwightMcCann - I have gained access to a lot eventswith the expressed agreement that the shots were for portfolio building and would not be used commercially - that the event holder keeps the right to control the publication of any resulting images. Would posting those images here constitute a breach of that agreement?

You aren't making any money off them on a message board, so it's fine. They are even fine to run in print for something like a newspaper. As long as you don't go commercial with them, you are fine.

Yup, I think with Grego. But without a written agreement, it is like no agreement at all. For the most part it is hard for me to imagine that any real headliner would even notice your existence and anybody else should be glad for whatever publicity you get them. There are exceptions, of course, and for those you simply wait for the 'Cease and Desist' request, but that is likely to exist only if you are selling them commerically ... again, BUT, as there are exceptions, though rare. I have shot about 30 country singer/songwriters that you have never heard of, plus ten or fifteen entertainers that you have heard of, and I have only had one tour manager tell me after the fact that I could not give to any third party, put on my website or otherwise publish any of my images of [name withheld] ... because, "I (sic) didn't know how to work with Cover Girl quality talent." And even that issue was resolved in my favor by an intermediary.

All that said, if your pictures are good enough to sell then the talent should want to buy them. If not, then give them away. I have some very high quality images on my website and I don't even put my name on most of them (right now) and I explicitly allow downloading for personal use most everything else. I find nothing quite so silly as websites with second quality images each of which has COPYRIGHT JOE BLOW written across the middle, completely destroying ones viewing pleasure. Of course, I have a "Day Job", so it is not a big issue for me.

I agree with Dwight. Be aware though, that putting them on a site where people can see them is considered "Publishing" in the strict legal sense. Still, I'd do it & take them down if someone complained.
