A620 flash pop sound followed by burning smell

I have a A620 ( that I love ). I was using it a few nights ago. I took one pic and the flash made a loud pop noise, kind of like an old disposable flash cube. This was followed by a burning smell. The flash still works, but whats the deal? Anybody experience this?

Sounds like a capacitor blew; that doesn't bode well for your A620's future, I'm afraid.

Yup, sounds like a defective capacitor that's used to power up the flash. It may not be worth fixing.

Thanks for the info guys. I might send it in to canon. However. If I
blew a capacitor would the flash still work? I am still able to use
the flash, even in a dimly lit room

Does everything in the camera function correctly? Have you checked the battery?
