Travelling to Peru

I heard that traveling to Peru is quite troublesome, if you are carrying a lot of photographic gear. Is it true?

Any particular precautions/documents to be carried which will ease the process?
I will be carrying XSi, Sig 10-20 ,18-55 IS and 55-250IS along with some filters.

Nah just got back from their no problem I was traveling with a Canon 450D, Canon 17-55, Sigma 10-20, Canon 55-250, a Tripod and bag with a bunch of odds and ends for the Inca Trail, Lake Titicaca, and the Amazon Basin.

I just returned from 5 months in South America, backpacking. Three of those months were spent in Peru.

I had no problems with my gear, which was very close to what you had.

Buy a good, non-obvious bag. I used a Domke 5XC which was great. Keep it close to you at all times. Reading online, you will be scared to death to travel with gear. I am sure that you will feel much more comfortable when you arrive. SLR's are a very, very common sight in Peru.

just got back last month , no problem with gear , if you go to machu picchu and you have a tripod put it in a bag to get in , they might question you about being a pro.
i put all my stuff in my backpack and my tripod in its kenisis bag , . once i was in i took it out and no one questioned me
have fun , i could have stay a month there

just use common sense...don't flash it around and act like a cocky typical tourist.
