Image licensing

I'm just trying to price something up and wondering about what to do regarding the time frame of licensing when applying it to printed media. For the web it's fairly straight forward, applying a time scale to image use such as 3 months or 3 years but for printed media it's life is essentially indefinite once created, no? is it quantified by the publication issue rate i.e. monthly/daily etc?

You can use something like:
- licensed for a single issue of publication xxx
- to be published [in the next x months/before x date].
