Well, it appears my camera has had mirror lock-up capability all along. I've read where folks have recommended using mirror lock-up for night shots and I have never taken the time to look and see if my camera had it or not. I really enjoy taking night shots, and am kind of excited to see if mirror lock-up helps with my image sharpness.
I'm assuming I won't notice much change at 10mm. What focal range do you think mirror lock-up would begin to make a difference? Thanks y'all.

Hey there Ax,
Well, mirror lock-up is aimed at eliminating the tremor created as the mirror slaps up and out of the way of the sensor. So it's really all about longer exposures, not the FL of the lens, though if your base is wobbly, anything over 100mm FL would benefit from mirror lock-up.
So, if you use mirror lock-up combined with a 10 second self-timer delay AND a completely rock-solid base/tripod for night shots, you should get the best from your camera. And I'd highly recommend (if you've not been there already) this POTN link (click here (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=763083)) which gives a lot of advice and further links about astro-photography, such as the DSS freeware ("Deep Sky Stacker") which makes a "world" of difference to how you approach night photography, assuming you're pointing up, and not at people.

Mirror lock is cool. Their is allways the hat trick for those who don't have it. Google it! : )
Polar enlignement and tracking will be your biggest challenge and that my friend is the key.
