What's the best way to shoot kids with the christmas tree w/ lights and still be able to expose the lights of the tree.

Should I meter for the christmas lights first then just use fill flash for the kids?

thanks.

Yep. I did that a few years ago for our card.

If you are up for it, share your shots with us. It's getting close to that time and I'm sure lots of people will want some inspiration.

I sure will after the shoot tomorrow.

Btw, did you just use hot shoe mounted flash for those shots or did you use off-cam? That's exactly I want to accomplish.

Man, that was 2005!

I think I used one of my AB flash heads turned waaay down and pointed at the ceiling or I shot through an umbrella.

We shot those in the dining room of our old house and space was limited so I don't think I had anything bigger than an umbrella. I can remember laying on the floor in the kitchen shooting into the dining room but I don't really remember much of the set up.
