The B&W, Still Life and Experimental forum?

I think there are a few posters who do more than the normal type of basic photography and who venture into the conceptual area of things. I don't want to say that a lot of people don't "get it" it's just that it seems there is not a lot of feedback in the way of this stuff because it doesn't really fit into one of the categories that we have up there, per se. Which I guess is cool about photography...it's so multi facted.

We could use a little place to get together and I think this would be a good place to add it on, rather than begging for a new 'fine art' forum or something.

It seems like there is a lot of discussion on the HOW of photography here, but not the why. Or am I just on the wrong boards? Don't get me wrong I love the whole gear aspect of photography, I just wish there was more of a designated place for fine art photography or conceptual stuff where the fact that there is motion blur or out of focus spots on purpose is a part of the photo.

There's a surreal photos thread in there which is really cool but I don't think many people see it because they don't really think much of that forum other than 'oh, thats where people go to post 800 of the same water drop shots'

Does this make ANY sense to any one?

Or we could just you know, bump that forum up to the top so it gets more traffic

I think the term "fine art" is subjective and as indicated by debates all over the net, can include anything from urban to landscape photography.

But I will certainly second the motion to add: artistic, surreal, and abstract. Good idea.

Anyone else? I don't see this hurting any or adding clutter, just helping to categorize more

I agree, and that is why we added all those talk forums a while ago in http://photography-on-the.net/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=110

I endorse all attempts to bring up philosophical, historical, artistic and metaphysics-related discussions. I've seen those gradually emerge, but as we know digital cameras are very technical things and it's so easy to forget the emotional and visual impact produced by an image is not done with pixel quality and low noise but with content, vision and style. I don't think adding Fine Art to forum name does it, though. It's a slow ongoing process and the topics will change when cameras as so good that they do not need all the attention in shooting process :)

Also, fine art photographers traditionally have used medium format (even film! :)) , and they are not so community-oriented as DSLR users.

I'll put your suggestion into the wall, and keep it in mind in the future, thanks!

You never know what future brings :)

Thanks for the response Pekka. However, I think that those "talk about photography" forums are really just another place to discuss the 'how did you get that shot? or how do you shoot a wedding?"

Etc etc.

I agree with you on most other points.

But do you think we could add surreal images to that forum's title :)

There is a huge thread in there with all surreal images and most people dont think to post them there because it's not in the description.
