Looked around and no one has really talked or reviewed this lens. Other than a tad slow, how good is it?

I'm reminded of the old saying, "Jack of all trade, master of none."

I owned one for a while, and found that I hever used it. I sold it along with the 300 f/4L prime and bought the 300 f/2.8L

On paper, it looks really good. That is, getting coverage from 28-300 in a single lens is really appealing, especially from an L lens. Unfortunately, the image quality, while good, is not exceptional at any length.

My opinion is that this is an ideal photojournalist's lens, and I suspect that you'll see them used in that field more than in any other application, especially where image quality is important. At almost 11X zoom, you're asking a lot from a lens if you're expecting it to be a stellar performer at all lengths.

It's what we call a hyper zoom. They don't have very good image quality for the most part. Soft.... nice to have around though I guess.
