Insurance for student

Hey guys, I am headed to mexico for a semester abroad, I was wondering what would be a good way to get my gear insured, or whether it's even worth it?

Obviously, I am a student and don't have the typical insurance such as homeowners where I can tack on my camera. Should I see if I can do something through my parents insurance?

Suggestions or links to other similar threads would be much appreciated!

If you are still a dependant of your parents, then search around here for threads about how to get your gear attached to your parents homeowners insurance.

Even as a student you need to be carrying renter's insurance and can then add a rider to that policy.

Look into a personal articles policy. Many insurance companies offer this, and it's a completely different policy than homeowners or renters, and is pretty cheap. Just call your insurance company and tell them what you're wanting... they probably have a product for you.

You should really talk to an insurance agent about this. Riders to homeowner's or renter's insurance may not cover your gear if you are abroad.

You may need an "inland marine" policy. You want to make sure that whatever you do get covers you when abroad.

I would certainly have the gear you have listed insured if it were me.
