Has anyone here had experience with both the kit lens and the Tamron 19-35 zoom? Is it worth recommending getting it instead of the kit lens for landscapes and general purpose countryside walks?
A friend of mine is about to get a 300D, his budget is limited but could stretch to the extra £100 or so that the Tamron would cost on top of the Canon 18-55.

Foxbat,
the EF-S 18-55 is a decent lens, and the price it is offered at is a very good one. I don't think that the Tamron 19-35 will be significantly better.
To be honest with you, I *think* I remember seeing a comment on the forum some days ago to the extent that the image quality of these two lenses is essentially the same. However ... I could not find that comment again, so this is just hearsay
Best regards,
Andy

Thanks Andy. I do get good results from my 18-55 as long as I work within its limitations. I was wondering if a significant improvement could be had without paying 17-40L money.
