Hello, i been "lurking" and have read lots of posts and am learning alot from your forum. I just got my a95 about a month ago and can't stop shooting! Anyhow, i am particularly interested in "macro" type shots. I don't remember my exact settings and will try to find when i get home. I'm not to happy with the "softness" of these. could this just be the limitations of my a95, or is my camera cabable of sharper, crisper, finer images (in macro mode)? I believe the settings were iso 50, 1/200, f5, metering "eval", flash off, macro mode, superfine mode, and about 6 inches from subject.

Hi, welcome. Did you use a tripod or any support? Could be camera shake. The first two have great colours.

Hi:)
yes i used my tripod, but maybe when i release the shutter i am shaking the camera. But, is the a95 capable of better than this, or am I expecting to much from this camera?
thank you soo much for your reply:)

Does your A95 allow you to select the point of focus or does the camera do it for you? Macro photography is highly dependent on your ability to make the camera focus exactly where you want it to because the depth of field is usually very shallow.

Yes, the A95 is capable of better results. Did you zoom when using macro mode? Plus, how far were you from your subjects?

I believe that i can control the focus point, there is a "metering" where i can choose "evaluate", and there are two other settings i think are "spot" and center. and I was about 6 inches from the subject and the weather was overcast for the spider, and rainy (light drizzle and overcast) for the raindrops and i was in "macro mode" fully zoomed in.
Its fantastic to know that its cabable of more and better. Something to aspire too!!!:)
Again thank you for the help:)

Here's an advise: don't zoom while in macro mode :) It just doesnt work too good.
Plus, if you aren't happy with the autofocus, there's always the manual focus. For better results, I would also advise you to make the metering in "spot" mode - it just looks better, believe me :)
I have really decent results using the macro mode on my A85, so yours should be even better :)

Awesome tips. I will try this tonight. That spider seems to never leave that flower:P He's been there for a whole week, through wind, rain and sun.
Again thank you
