'Food' category.

I'm sorry if this is not the appropriate place to make such a suggestion, however; I'd like to suggest a 'Food' category be made in the 'Photo sharing' section; I beleive it should have it's own section because really, it's a different style of shooting in itself, using the shallow DOF, plating techniques and backgrounds to contrast the foods on the plate.

I understand there is a 'Still life, B&W and Experemental' section, but in my opinion it is far to broad. I'd really love to be able browse peoples food shots as it's a style of photography i'm really into (but cannot achieve too well, yet) and admire some of our more experienced photographers work in the area.

What are peoples thoughts on this?

Same as all the other special-interest topics. Show us there's a substantial pool of food photographers out there, able to create more than 1-2 threads a week, and it'll be considered. The areas that are out there are out there because of demonstrated activity within their previous homes. Just being different isn't enough to warrant a new forum; you have to ba active. That's how we got Birds, Motorsport, Family, and Astrophotography to name a few. The Underwater people have started a thread just to collect their interest group. You might consider trying that as well.

Takes more than "I'd like to see this" - it takes photos. Try starting a thread in Still Life for people to actually post their photos.

Guys, as already stated, if you want it, create one and make it hum.

That's quite interesting. So every time you eat out you whip out a camera and at least one flash and snap pics of the food at your table?

Well I don't have a flash but the lighting is good enough wherever I go. My friends that I eat with even want me to take pics of their food before they eat.

I think it would really be beneficial to this web site. There's people from all over this world and it would be neat to see their foods. Not just from hotels or restaurants but home made foods as well. Heck, POTN could even start a cookbook.
