Used 580 ex

I have been offered a 580ex for a killer price. He said it was on used twice and has everything except the bag for it. Still has box, stand, manuals.

Anyway, I want to go try it out but I am not sure what to do. I have never used a flash from the hotshoe before so this is the first time. What and how do I test this out to see if its in good shape.

The easiest way to test the flash is to set the flash on P, attached the flash to the hoe shoe, turn it on, and start firing away. And make sure you're indoors where the ambient lightling is low enough that the flash is your main source of lighting.

Did the seller tell you that it had only been used twice?

And it was only used on ISO 1600 for short distances?

Well, I bought the flash for $200. Tested it out with low battery's on my Elan 7, worked on some functions. Bought it anyway, came home tested on fresh battery's and it worked on all functions.

Awesome flash, just need to do some testing and figure out the best settings.

It is indeed an awsome flash - Have only had mine for just over a week but now realise it's one of the best accessories I've ever bought.
