I am shooting a music video tonight with a borrowed 5D Mark II. The photographer I am borrowing the camera from is particularly paranoid about updating his camera and is very likely running the old firmware. It of course would be very rude to update his camera for him and return it with new firmware without permission.

Quick questions/clarification:

1. With the old firmware can I set the camera to manual, set my ISO, shutter speed, and aperture, then entire live view mode and start recording with those settings?

2. To change the settings I exit out of live view, make the change, then enter live view again, correct?

3. Some shots will have hot lights (Arri tungstens) directly in the frame/background. I don't want the cameras auto features kicking in and changing my settings if a light flares my lens. This won't be a problem on manual mode will it?

Thanks in advance!

The exposure control will go into full automatic. The best way that we found is to use MF lenses even then it's still inconsistent w/ the exposure when trying to lock down the exposure. To lock the exposure w/ either MF or AF lenses, press the zoom-out button, at thumb-reached. The exposure response is so sensitive it's kinda hard to lock it down w/ AF lenses.

I do not recommend AF lenses even if you're shooting something for fun. I don't even recommend myself of doing it, to be honest. It's probably not a great idea even if you have time to practice b4 the shoot.

I have never heard anybody messes up their 5DII when upgrading to latest firmware, and I am speaking on behalf of videographers and filmmakers, bc we are are noob at DSLR.
