Still playing with the 7D and the Canon 580II and 430II flashes. Using the flashes in combo trying to get it right. C & C welcome.

Like the shots, but I don't like the border. Its distracting.

I know you're probably shooting in the dark, but overall, these seem very dark to me.

I don't like the border. Its distracting.I got a new computer for my birthday and was playing with a new program, LOL.

Thanks for the comments.

Great shots. The border doesn't detract at all IMO. Also, the dark background lends emphasis to the car in 1.

Nice shots. I find it hard to shoot drag racing at night!

Shots look great. Love the turbos in the grill of the camero.

I think they're about right, but if you did want to have just an area lighter/darker, Adjustment Layers are one answer:

whilst they are a bit dark I don't think the darkness massivley detracts from the images. I bet the drivers loved getting blinded by the flashes.

I make a point not to start shooting until they move, wouldn't want to cause someone to redlight. I know some drivers and they said they don't even notice the flash, they're focused on the tree and keeping it straight down the track.

I'm told the same thing. However, a few tell me they don't like the flash during staging.

I have derailed from shooting at night for the flash factor, however I do drive a car too and never notice any flash.

"a few tell me they don't like the flash during staging" " however I do drive a car too and never notice any flash"I'll shoot them during the burnout but not while staging. I wouldnt want to be a distraction and cause someone to redlight. Would be bad enough to make someone lose a race but sometimes those guys are racing for some big buck$$$$$. They might want to give me an a$$ whoopn'...lol.

I tend to avoid using a flash during competition except for heads-up classes simply because I don't want to be accused of influencing a race. If I do shoot during a bracket competition, I shoot the car that leaves last so the flash goes off after both cars have left the starting line. However, I have been known to accidentally press the shutter button too far while waiting for a car to leave, so the picture has to be worth a lot for me to risk it. The heads-up guys can ignore about anything as far as I can tell. On the other hand, I had one bracket racer ask me to take flash pictures during every round of eliminations hoping that it might rattle his opponent.
