Hey everyone. So I've been shooting seriously for about a year now and using photoshop on a regular basis for about eight. I'm applying to FIT in New York and majoring in photography and I'd like some input on my portfolio thus far. There are still a few more pictures I'd like to take seeing as I mostly shoot people and I'd like to send them some places and landscapes as well. But this is it so far. Any comments would be greatly appreciated. The pictures range from set up photo shoots, candids while at shoots, candids in general, a few nightlife photos and two self portraits. [I'm the guy haha] There are 27 photos and I can send them a maximum of 30. So, obviously once I take a few more, these will be edited down. But.. yeah. So. Let me know! Thanks in advanced!

Also please note I don't mean for anyone to critique each one! That would be asking a lot. Haha. I'm just looking for overall comments about my portfolio and some general advice. Since we're limited to eight photos, I put a few of my favorites. I'll include a link to my flickr [which has the rest of them] right below this paragraph for anyone who wants to check it out. Thanks again!

I think 1,2 and 6 are the strongest pieces for me.

3 is cool, but because of the flare, it looks like there is something wrong with the image, to me.

@Ryan: Yeah I do that occasionally.. It's something to do with other parts of her body missing [i.e. her hands and feet.] To my eye, it's a balance thing. I think I agree that it may have looked better if I had framed it a little differently. Thanks for your comment!

@Todd: Thanks for the input! Maybe I'll play around with it a bit in photoshop to see how it effects the image overall when the flare is gone. I have mixed feelings about it as well. Haha. Thanks again.

I'm glad you said that. When I see that number of images, I tend to move on.

I have to say that your shots gives me pause and hold my eye in an attempt to answer the question, "what's going on in this shot?" That's a good thing. They intimate that there's a story behind each one and challenge to viewer to figure it out. Having said that, I think the first one is the weakest from this point of view. If you'll pardon my suggestion, it looks like a grab shot at a New Orleans Mardi Gras.

I love the eye contact between the subjects in the one of the woman going into the pool.
