What aperture setting do you use when doing family portraits of 3 or more people?

Depends on things like; how many layers they are standing in. Rows of 1, 2, 3, etc.

Not only how many LAYERS, but, are you doing a tight, close up shot, or are you posing them against a background of trees, for example. Do you want to see your background sharply, or do you want it blurred? Will you have lots of light? What kind? Natural or flash? There is no one answer, it depends on the circumstances and what you want to achieve....
