Newbie here,
When i'm in Manual mode, the camera acts like it is in Program mode. It auto selects aperature and shutter speed. Anyone else have this problem or know how to fix it without sending the camera in?
Thanks.

This is a long shot....but are you 100% sure it's on "M" and not a green square or something? Have you tried every other setting to see if any offer Manual control?

This problem is 99% likely to be because of user error, not the camera. Not trying to put you down, trying to save you the time and hastle of sending what's probably a perfectly good camera back. Until you know what's going on stick the camera in P mode (the big dial on the top with P, M, Av, Tv, etc) and use it, then go read the manual.

Yes it's in Manual, i'm sure. I've tried the other settings but none work as a fully manual setting. I've shot with it lots in M before, and then it just quit working...

Oh...
So it worked perfectly fine before and it just stopped? Well....that does seem rather strange. A call to canon might help?

I don't want to send the camera back, but I want to have full control of the camera. P just does not offer me that.

3 calls, 3 messages and no reply...

This is what you do:
Put the mode selector dial to M.
Set the shutter to 2 seconds.
Take the lens cap off.
Go somewhere in daylight.
Press the shutter button.
It should go slap klick as the mirror goes up then, 2 seconds later, it should go klick slap as the mirror reflexes.
If you are in M mode? and it does not do this then yes, your camera is buggered.

But...
He said he can't change anything in M mode. He stated he's been using M mode fine and all of a sudden it stopped working properly. So he can't really go through that experiment. =)

Good point, I meant that as a walk through just to be sure it was not user error.
The other alternative is, he is having what we call a "Microsoft Moment".
You know, the one where you have to take all the power off the machine.
I would at least try a hard reset and remove both batteries.

OK. Set it to Manual mode. The camera will start by selecting shutter and aperture based on old settings. Then the top display should show the pointer and scale to show where those settings are going to take you with respect to what the camera's meter says. Then by adjusting either the front dial or rear control, you should be able to move the shutter and aperture settings independently. Is this the way yours works?

When in Manual Mode on the 350D, you turn the control wheel and it changes only the shutter speed. If you want to change the aperture, you must hold down the AV button and turn the wheel. That changes only the aperture. Does that help?

Perhaps the best thing to do is to go into a local photography shop and spend 30 seconds with someone who knows the camera. A friend who's used one before would be an even better option.

That's how it used to work!

The front dial does nothing when I turn it. It only changes if I hold down the AV button, which lets me control if I want to underexpose or overexpose the image.
I am going to take the camera into a shop this weekend. Thanks guys your all your effort.

He said he can't change anything in M mode.
Re-read the original posting. That is not exactly his statement.
