I have been looking for a solid HD option for shooting adventure photography while out in the field. I shoot adventure documentaries and landscape photography on trips that sometimes last for many months. The HD's need to be able to take a little action. I have used Lacie rugged HD's in the past and they weren't bad, however my next documentary is much large in scope then any I have done before. I am looking for a realistic external HD option that would handle both photography and video, which is why I am looking for a minimum of 500 Gigabytes, preferably 1 TB. I will probably end up taking 4-5 TB drives if I can find a good option. I use a new 13' Mac Book Pro while traveling so I would prefer to for it to have a Firewire 800 port over USB 2.0. Any ideas?

Take a look at the Olixir external drives. They're pretty rugged. They have two versions. The rugged ones and the really rugged, i.e. military grade, external drives. They have a choice of connection interfaces.

Freecom also offers some alternatives. There is the thoughdrive and you also have the thoughdrive sports, which comes with a nice hole in it so you can buckle it to whatever you can.
