So I have looked at the major players for the bag I want and I can't seem to find the one that suits all my purposes...It might not exists but I would like to ask you first if it does..

I need a hiking bag - a mulitple day hiking bag that can carry a couple days of clothes, other hiking essentials and my photo gear.

Ideally this would also have a spot for my laptop for long day trips but this is not essential.

The real catch, is that I want to be able to store my Camera with the 70-200mm IS attached.

Any ideas?

I am planning to hike the Apalacian trail with my brother and I would like to find something that suits my needs

For hiking, you would consider the weight you gonna to carry. For me, I would carry Tamrac 5256 Backpack for my photo gear and clothing and other stuff I would need the help of my brother. Hope this help.

When I hike I carry a regular backpack bag and pack my camera gear in around clothes, sleeping bag, etc. During the day I often have my camera around my neck so it's readily available.

If you need to carry more then that, you need a sherpa.

You mean if he needs more then that he'll need a LLama or Pack Mule.

Regular hiking pack, add 2 cheap caribinas and you can attach your camera pack to the top, bock, middle, wherever - on the main hiking pack. Your main pack, if t is specifically designed for hiking, will be more comfortable than one designed for carrying cameras. I also think this may be a cheaper option.
