Seems like the focal length on the 20d (96mm) seems ideal for general candid photos, plus its got nice macro features and I hear it is very sharp.

However, is it just me or isn't Canaons next jump going to be 12-16mp full frame sensor replacement for 20d Drebel? If I extrapolate the technology jumps and price slashes Canon is prone to, the 20d becomes the 30d with 13mp and a price of $1200 and the Drebel goes to 10mp and $600. I would also think we are talking 18 months since 20d came out which would be???

So, will Canon move the sensor back to allow for the EF-S lenses?
Will anyone who bought an EF-S lens be screwed selling on eBay for $200?
Is the 50mm 2.5 macro sharp and fast as well?
Who made liquid soap and why?;)

I was afraid of what you are mentioning too, so I opted for the EF 100 f 2.8 Macro. I am very very happy with my purchase and the lens is excellent for portraits and can be used in the future if full size sensors eventually find a home in pro-sumer bodies.

I think canon would be dumb to do that. They will have two ranges...the 1.6 crop and the full frame. the 1.3 will be the one to go I think. It would make sense.

The 30D willbe the top of the 1.6crop cameras and the 1 series will be the full frame.

Unless you are thinking of springing for the 1 series, you should be okay.

anyway, everyone thinks that if you shoot macro go for the extra working range with the 100m macro.

but I think the 60 will have a really good portrait ranges...as you said...

canon will not be so silly to ditch their EFS lines.

someone who knows more should really step in. :-)

The 60 mm EF-S macro's really a solution looking for a problem. If you're in the field, what's the most important differentiator between macros? Right - working distance. And the 100 EF Macro has a better working distance than the 60, at the same aperture and virtually the same price. DoF at any given magnification/aperture combination will be virtually identical, which is to say non-existent at 1:1. For that matter, I understand Chuck Westfall's been known to recommend the TS-E 90 as your best macro option because the tilts and shifts will help you get maximum DoF control.

I have a cheap Quantaray 50mm f2.8 macro that I got for under $300. It is soft and hunts badly. I don't use the macro feature that often, but this is the lens I go to when I do. I was hoping to killtwo birds with one stone here, and 100mm is too long. Thanks for the input.

Its sharp, its light, DOF at close up is non existent (ie 8 inches @ f2.8 DoF 0,03 inch). Thats what some users want, but not all users. I would now go for a longer focal length.

i'm not sure on the name. remember canon already have released a digital camera with the number 30 in its name...

i say get what you need now and dont worry about the future
