Good luck everyone!
Voting:
To keep the contest brief, voting in each round will last for 5 days.
While we want to keep it fun, this contest is a little more serious then our usual ones, so please do not discuss any of the photos until voting in the final round has closed. I'm really keen to ensure that no-one feels the contest was biased against them.

And the winner appears to be contestant number 4.
But only 41 have voted.

This seems like a good time to remind you all of forthcoming contests. We are now back to normal service on the fun contests. Look in talk about photography for an announcement of the next one.
Also, the POTN Abstract/Other photographer 2005 category closes 31st July.

One thing disappoints me though and that is the number of users that vote :(
Only 41 users voted here and thats really a shame (thats not Your fault Sam).

Congrats Sheldon and Trevor.
I'm assuming it's ssim? and not the forum member "sheldon"
2 out of 2? What a storm trooper.
Impressive shots everyone, and thanks again Sam for hosting a fun competiton.

Thanks guys :)
Tommy, you are right, it is a shame about the low turnout. Does anyone have any suggestions about how we might increase it next time?
Wazza - the email was signed 'Sheldon' so that's all I know. Perhaps the mystery winner would like to come forward and reveal all? ;)

I never saw where we could see the original photos entered. I finally found this post. Where forum was the original link posted?

Big_B....I have a suggestion. Make it obvious where the contest can be seen. I looked ever since I submitted my shot to the contest and couldn't find a link to see if it had even been uploaded (the contest photos). I checked everyday in various parts of the forums and never saw anything that I could click on to see all of the submissions and then today I see this thread. Very disappointing actually. I really wanted to see what all people had submitted etc. Next time, make it a sticky at the top of the galleries and forums or something. Bummed I never got to see everyone's submissions. I bet this has to do with the low voter turn out.

Actually there has been a link for the photos in each of the 3 votes leading up to the final vote.
Sam is not a moderator so he can't make the votes sticky himself. But both Sam and myself have bumped the 3 votes to the top of the list in order to get more to see the topics. And since the main vote has had more than 300+ views I doubt the low number of voters is because the topic has not been seen. It is more likely lack of interest which is a shame. I did not partitipate in this first round but plan to in one of the next.
Maybe Pekka can put a link in the top of the forum like the POTN strap link. This link should link to the main contest topic which again could have link for relevant other posts.

And by the way I just noticed that Pekka have created a completely NEW forum just for the contests so now it should be easy to find the relevant contests.

Lynn,
Sam is doing his best to push the contest(s), but there is so much he can do. If you ask me, making the contests more visible is our responsibility. It takes some effort to get people on board.

I didn't mean to seem to attack Sam. I just never saw where the orinal post was. I was just making a suggestion. I honestly looked for the post/thread to see the original photos but never saw it. I do agree that having a link like the strap link would be a good thing for future contests as well as having a seperate forum, like the new one we see here "Competitions". Sorry if I offended anyone. I can assure you though, that in no way was that meant to be attacking in the slightest.

Don't worry about it Lynn, we didn't take what you said in a negative way at all. As a matter of fact, I'm for one appreciated your concern/inquiry.

Unfortunetely, I couldn't vote, as I found out about the contest too late.
Most likely, it was not advertised blatantly enough for me to realize it ... and I normally don't check out the new 'Contests' area.
Still, no harm done, as I would have voted for Sheldon's pic anyway ... all entries are world class, but a world class image with a train it is something special
Best regards,
Andy

Yeah, the Talk about Photography forum didn't seem to be used too much by many people. Hopefully with the new competition forum, people will come here more directly.
Sam did a great job, and it was always near the top of the page on Talk about Photography, and I admit, I had trouble finding one of the competitions also, coz I didn't think of looking down into Talk about Photography. :p
Lynn Lane

Well that seems to have been the problem. I didn't know what forum to look at. I never checked for it in the "Talk about Photography" forum. I looked literally everywhere else. I primarily would check back in the various "Photo Sharing" forums, especially the landscape one since that was the subject. I figured there would have been a sticky for it to stay at the top of one of those. Oh well, maybe next time. I think that this "Competitions" forum will help with the confusion.

I did vote in this competition. Glad to see the picture I voted for in the top 3, I actually wanted to vote for all of the top 3 winners as they are all fantastic!
I must admit though that I only stumbled across this comp by accident, I think it's great that it is here now and more will see and hopefully vote.
Just a thought, how about putting a sticky in the relevant photo sharing section that matches the theme?..Mind you it might be hard to do with this month's theme!:)
I'm looking forward to seeing all the entries :)

Lynne, I'm really sorry you had such trouble finding the contest location. As discussed, it clearly wasn't brilliant with the contests hidden away in the 'Talk about...' section, but I hope that sorted out now.
Our new and shiny part of the forum should really help boost the profile of compeititions, but I will also be making announcements in relevant share forums as well. For example, if we have a 'Sports' competition, I'll put a note up in the sports part of the board.
Thanks to everyone for their competitions,
Sam :D

For those of you that voted for my shot thank you. All of the shots were very good and any deserved to win.
I spend more time on this forum than I probably should so I had no problems finding the thread. Having it's own area now should clear up any confusion that might have occurred in this contest.
My image was taken in the small prairie town in Alberta where I grew up. It is the veritable sleepy little town that relies on agriculture for its existence. The praire sunset showing the grain elevators and the oncoming train has special meaning for me.

Well done Sheldon! :D
Just for info, I'll be launching the next one (abstract/other) this thursday (probably - my computer keeps breaking  ). Anyway, if anyone has any comments to make before I do so, please add them to the rules and info thread here (http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=71563&page=2).
