My A40 is just over a month old. The set of batteries that came with the camera had just died so I hooked it up to the computer to download the images powered by the AC adaptor.

Everything downloads fine so I unhook the camera and go to replace the batteries with a fresh set of NiMh rechargeables. But nothing happens when I attempt to power up the camera again. Hook it up to the AC - again nothing. Put some fresh alkalines in - nothing!

The camera had worked perfectly up until this point.

Help me please!

Yup. It was the ACK600.

Any smoke or a burning smell coming from the camera?

Can you read on the adaptor how many amperes it has got as output? Even if it is the original from Canon... it could be too much/too low "power" that makes the damage!

No smoke or anything that would indicate a problem while the ACK600 was in use with the camera.

The output on the ACK600 says 4.3V and 1.5A. The ACK600 is the AC-adaptor model specified in the manual.

Thanks for everyone's input in the meanwhile.

I am glad I bought my S30 from BestBuy with the performance plan. If ANYTHIGN happens, I get a new one!

It' s very strange, when you find out what went wrong please send a message on this forum....
I have been using an "unoriginal" adapter with 4,5 volts and 1200Ma without any problem.
I hope you will solve the problem....
