I have a new S45 which is just one week old and am very happy with my choice.

On close inspection, I have noticed what appears to be a small speck of dirt stuck to the inside of the optical viewfinder. It is only visible when holding the camera away from the face (about 9 inches) and viewing against a white background. I'm sure that it has no effect on the photos taken, but I wish it was not there.

Any suggestions how I can remove it ? Or should I just forget about it.

Thanks a lot

I got a cheap 'camera cleaning kit' from a local camera shop, that has very fine (but crisp) tissues, cleaning fluid and a blower with a brush on the end.

Try the blower first. If not, lightly screw up a tissue, add a small amount of cleaning fluid, and let it almost dry. Then wiped out the viewfinder.

(I also did the same for the lense, as I had managed to get a fingerprint on it - don't ask me how).

I have the same problem, but I'd say the trouble to clean it is hardly worth the effort. If you have a very small screwdriver, you could do it yourself, but that's only for the bravest of souls. An alternative to that is to take it to a camera repair shop... they may be able to help. Oh and btw, blowing on the S30's viewfinder is likely to get dust on the other side of the glass. INSIDE the viewfinder. Buy an optical glass cleaning kit to wipe the outside. I paid like $5 for one at CompUSA, and it works wonderfully.
