View Full Version : How would a digicam hold up...

Planning on doing some winter sports soon, snowmobiling and am wondering what the effects of the cold and jarring/vibration might do to my S230.

Have not had it exposed to cold for any length of time and I'm sure the vibration from constant bouncing on a snowmobile won't do it any good but am asking to see if any of you have subjected your digicam to any extremes?
Any ill effects?

TIA :)

Mac,

The cold plays havoc with your batteries and if its too cold you can also freeze some of the lubricant that works inside the cameras lens. If you can keep the battery warm in your pocket and put it in when you use it then you will find it lasts a bit longer but carrying a spare is highly recommended.

I've also found that the heat can be just as bad, recently we had a streak of 42-44c (108-112F?) days and my battery (G2, BP511) was dying in 3-5 hours.

I'm not too sure about the cold but I've put my camera in my pack on my back and mountain biked with no problems. I don't think the shaking will hurt it but a sudden jarring could.
