I recently purchase an EFS 17-85mm lense and am quite new to this forum.

It seems that many on the forum are quite high on Tamron equivalents (at least equivalent in spec).

Does anyone have any realworld advice that can lead me to replace this lense or to keep using it as a workhorse, general purpose lense?

SMG, Welcome to POTN! I have had many tamron lenses. First one was 28-300. Sorry I sold it as it was a nice light walkaround piece. Have the 90mmSP Macro now and it is a great lens and value.

Many members have some tamrons, most users here that own tamrons own the 28-70 2.8 Rave reviews on this lens. Take a look and search for this and you will see some pics to back up this lens frenzy.

Tamron includes a hood on all their models and a six year warranty. Look for reviews on the net about the tamrons with focal length you are after as some models are not so hot. This holds true for any manufacturer but this step will save you considerable greif.

I find tamrons I own or owned to be great values and good performers ( the macro is GREAT). Fit my needs at the time and budget.

Speaking of budget if you can tell us your range we can custom plan your credit card debt ;) . Its would also be nice to know your shooting styles and subjects.

i think if your going to replace your 17-85, you maybe looking at buying 2 lenses. the tamron 28-75 is superb, but may not be wide enough for your needs and the other tamron zooms ie 18-200 arn`t that good according to others on the forum
