Please, anybody!
As I do a lot of pix at the seaside where the air is heavy with salty spray, I've become anxious about its efx on my fragile piece of electronics.
Is anyone aware of a usable raincoat-type of protection, neoprene or such, for the D20?

Yeah. One has to google to get back to where he started: http://web.syr.edu/~lmason/waterproofing.html

Low end...nothing to brag about and highly functional.
Garbidz-kind of a bag!

Kata makes a raincoat type device for SLR cameras. It has extensions for longer lenses too. That being said, I don't think that would really help you in salt air. Salt air is just that, the salt is atomized somewhat and will get into anything that is in the atmosphere, whether or not it's under a tarp.
