Is the 580EX weather sealed and/or water resistant? Do showers affect it? If so, what remedies have been used? Shooting H.S. football tonight and was wondering.

The 580EX is not but the 580EX II is supposed to be. But that wouldn't do you any good without a weather sealed camera to go along with it unless you use a raincoat with the camera.
For the 580EX, you might be able to use a ziplock bag over it to protect it from the rain. You'll need to do the same with your cameras, too, though.

Thanks Leo. I've used a zip for my camera and grip in the past and I guess I'll just do the same with the flash. Hope the game is worth it.

I wouldn't use a flash in rain because of backscatter. Also, if putting a flash in a bag, remember to do something about the heat!

Makes sense. Actually, it is pretty foggy right now and you know how fog and flash mix:(
