I recently bought a EOS 350D which I love - i even sleep with it by the bed!
BUT - im looking to get a new lens which will give me a good level of zoom (for air shows) but also a good wide range as well...
This is the first SLR cam I have had, and don't know what to look at. I dont want to spend too much, but a good all rounder would be great.
Any advice?

In order to suggest any lens (or lenses), one would have to know your intended use(s) for the camera.
Check out this thread on the forum: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=56752 It may answer some of your many questions regarding lens choices.

Haha - Not by me mate, as I love mine. I don't do much low-light photography though but can understand others wanting something with a wider aperture.

Why would you get flamed for showing me a tramron?,,,,,.... mmmm..?
Looks interesting.
I want to take the following types of shots:
1. photographs at air shows
2. Wildlife
3. Scenic - landscapes etc...
Is the tamron a good all rounder?..

For the money and range I don't think there is a better all-around lens on the market. No it cannot compete with the more expensive Canon L's or primes but if you need a light compact lens that covers a large zoom range it's a winner. I am currently on my second one having sold the first but really missed it as I work in a Park system and it is the perfect lens for my needs. It is definatly not my only lens but is my primary walk-around.

A lens with a 10-to-1 zoom ratio (the longest focal length divided by the shortest) isn't going to have the quality of better zooms that are typically limited to a 3-to-1 zoom ratio. However, if you aren't really critical about quality of the images, this sort of lens would definitely give you the flexibility that you might want right away without going too deeply into hock. If you don't want to enlarge the images past the typical 4"x6", you would probably never see the difference in quality.
Make sure you get a sturdy tripod, though, as the 300mm focal length with a maximum aperture opening (minimum f-stop number) of f6.3 will need a lot of stabilizing to avoid blur due to motion.

Forgot to answer the Flame question: Has nothing to do with Tamron, the 28-75 which I also have, is one of the best lenses on the market. There is always quality compromises with any do it all full range zooms like the 28-300, but the benefit of not carrying 2-3 lenses with you is something only you can decide if it is worth the benefit.

mm... Im printing my images out at A3/A2/A1 size... so what would be better. I can use a tripod but image clarity needs to be good.

which reminds me, If anyone is interested, I can print images up to 72" x 36" on photographic paper or canvas. I have a large format printer. If any of the group on here want images printing, give me a shout.
