I'm a complete newbie so I'm sorry in advance and how numb this question may be.

I'm trying to size some pictures that I have taken. I cropped them so that they would be the same dimensions of 8x10 or another of 4x6, though the actual picture is still large. In my photo editing software, the photos look like they have rough edges. Though when they are viewed as "actual size" they look smooth. (I'm not sure if I am making sense.)

When I go to buy the actual prints and use the photo while ordering the size of 4x6 or so forth, will the picture be rough or edgy? Or will those smooth out? Do I have to reduce the size of the actual picture?

Thanks in advance.

Most likely the edges ARE smooth. It can appear rough on the monitor, especially if you are looking at in in some funky magnification.

It would help to know what editing software you are using.

Your camera takes shots at a far higher resolution than your screen can display( camera resolution is upwards of 3000x 2000 - your monitor 1900x1200 on a good one) . this means that sometimes edges in particular look jaggy because they are not at their native resolution. When printed, the resolution used is the native resolution so it will print properly.
