One of my local camera stores has this in stock. I've looked at it several times and am impressed with the workmanship, features, weight and stability. The owner has a Gitzo and says this compares very favorably for about $200 less. They also sell Gitzo.

I searched here but didn't find any opinions on this tripod. Has anyone had experience with them?

Thanks!

Today I saw the Promaster T525P in a local camera store in my location and I also would like somoene's opinion on this tripod.

I did a search here for this tripod but this was the only thread that came up.

My wife and I are planning a trip out to Colorado in June and would like a smaller lighter weight tripod to take with us.

I currently own the Manfrotto 3021BPRO tripod which is a very sturdy and very solid tripod, but much too heavy and bulky to take on a plane with us.

One thing I like about the T525P is that it is small enough to put in a suitcase for traveling but I am concerned that it could be stolen while the suitcase is not in my custody at airports.

My equipment to be used on this tripod is in my signature.

Thank you

I don't know anything about this particular tripod but, I do have a promaster tripod & head. This was one of my first purchases 4-5 years ago and still works well. The only problem I have is the feet of my particular tripod fall off from time to time. It no longer is a problem since I lock-tited them on! I'd do it over again. Price is less than most and quality is on part with the name brands.

Paul,

Thank you for your reply. I am thinking right now I will go ahead and get this tripod unless I learn something more soon.

At that price I'm going with a Feisol.

The trick is to find out who makes that Promaster tripod. Promaster usually just relabels products.

Yesterday I went back to the camera store to again look at the Promaster tripod and ask more questions. I also took along my camera gear. I fully extended the legs and put it on the floor. With no camera on the tripod I then took my hand and rested my hand on top of the tripod and gave it a twist to see how sturdy it was. That was all I needed to see. The legs flexed between top and bottom probably 1/2" (5 section legs). I knew then I would not be buying that tripod.

I ended up getting the Manfrotto 190CX3 (http://www.manfrotto.com/Jahia/site/manfrotto/cache/offonce/pid/16521) carbon fiber tripod which was $20 cheaper than the Promaster. The 190CX3 is taller and a LOT sturdier. Very little flex with the same test.

I also ordered the Manfrotto 322RC2 Horizontal Grip Action Ball Head.

It seems quite short, considering it has 5 sections which is a LOT. I would imagine the bottom section is pencil thin and your little instore test really doesn't surprise me.

For that price there are much better options including Manfrotto, Feisol and others, imo.

Which is why I ended up purchasing the Manfrotto mentioned earlier.

I have never heard of Feisol, but I am sure the Manfrotto will do just fine :)

I never worry about sticking a tripod into my hold luggage. I don't think most people would imagine they're that valuable.

Thank you Frank. Other people I have talked to have said the same thing.
I am going to pack my Manfrotto 190CX3 in my suitcase.
