17-40L Lens Hood

I have the 17-40L on my shopping list. Just curious.... is the original lens hood really that huge? Some people even find it inconvinient and others can´t get it in there bag.

I´ve been looking around but could´nt find a pic with the hood on the lens. Maybe somebody could lead me to a link showing this or post a pic here.

Yeah, its naff...a real pain.
I often go without a hood with this lens as its so awkward.

Seeing EOSD30fReAk photo... i agree it is awkward looking. :lol:

BTW. Read somewhere else on the net, that if you use the 17-40L on a camera with a 1.6 sensor, you can use the "EW-83DII" hood instead!

Anybody that uses that hood want to share her/his experience?

That's the hood from the EF 24mm f/1.4L. It's more... conventional.

I hate that hood! But I'm anal about using hoods on my lenses and it fits in my bag, so its no big deal. :)

I think the hood makes it look awesome! It is kind of... wide... and short though.... it's weird, and definately doesn't fit very well at all in my bag, but it makes the lens look cool so I keep it around. :) Here's a pic of my 17-40L with it's hood on.

aha... i see. CADWELL are you using that combo?

I agree, it's a monster to have on a short lens (non-telezoom). Something to think about, I carry all of my lens hoods in the pouch for my 70-200 f/4. I live in Arizona and I shoot with the 17-40L often and I have had a hard time finding the one bag that will fit this lens and my 20D w/ vertical grip. If you know of one, let me know. -David.

I have been force to take off all the reversed lens hood on my gear and put them thru a loop on the outside of the backpack. Saves so much room. I know they are going to be dinged up a bit but Its only the hood. Man trying to fit a flower petal monster like this or the one for my 16-35 inside bag is freaking driving my nuts, so i gave up. Now I just attach the needed hood to the specific lens and live with the fact that I need a bigger bag (but that would create a desire to fill it up!!).
